Description

The infamous and legendary "Jah Life in Dub" LP, finally released. Originally slated for release in late '80/early / '81, this was to be Jah Life's first dub LP, featuring all exclusive mixes to now-classic Barrington Levy tunes. For one reason or another, the LP was never released. To confuse matters, a couple years later, some of the unused jackets were given to Germain to house an untitled dub LP of his productions. Naturally, we needed to rectify this situation. So here it is finally released 34 years later! Featuring ten killer dubs to Barrington Levy tunes, ALL MIXED BY SCIENTIST AT KING TUBBYS. Six out of the ten tracks are previously unreleased mixes, including a dub to the song "Jah Life" which has never been available anywhere before.

This is a companion of sorts with the recently released Dub album, "The Dub Album They Didn't Want You To Hear", with mixes by Scientist. This "Jah Life..." album was originally supposed to be released back in the late '70s/early 80s, but it never happened. It features the Roots Radics Band who laid down the backing tracks at Channel One, produced by Herman Wright. The Dub mixes were done at Tubby's by Scientist, who was a protege of Tubby's. As I said in the review of "The Dub Album...", I think of all Tubby's young proteges, Scientist came the closest to matching Tubby's work at the mixing desk. With Scientist at the controls you hear classic, organic (pre-computer) Dub mixes that bring out the rhythms of a song. And with the sound being very good with a slight warmth to it, that organic period of Dub music comes through. And with the Roots Radics Band you have one of the very best bands of that era laying down some deep grooves for Scientist to use. This album--along with the "The Album They..." mentioned above--are two very fine Dub albums with classic Dub mixes. Both titles have popped up numerous times whenever classic missing Dub albums are talked about. It's great to finally have both albums released so that Dub fans (like me) can now hear some of Scientist's best work. Check 'em out if you're a Dub fan.
